As humanity becomes more and more out of touch with the natural and "real" world, I believe they are looking for authenticism in art as well as in other parts of their lives to fill that void. The untrained artist who paints from visions, obsessions, or commandment from God fulfills the needs of an ever cynical and disenfranchised society.
