I think most people don't realize that momentum trading is only a subset of the available trading strategies and one that should be avoided most of the time. Livermore really didn't have any choice. The price swings in congestion weren't wide enough for him to draw profits because the lapse between orders and order fills back in those days ruled it out.

But there absolutely no reason for us not to trade these ranges. In fact, congested ranges are much more predictable and yield a much higher percentage of winning trades than buying the breakout or selling the breakdown.
