Because they fight tooth-and-nail much needed reform of social security. The only guarantee we can offer young Americans, is when a portion of the money is in their own name, in their own account.
If the government controls all the social security funds, the system will collapse under its own weight as the baby boom generation reaches retirement, and more and more people are required to be supported by less and less workers.
Further, people will no doubt live quite a bit longer as new drugs and therapies become available in the next 30 years. Therefore, social security as it currently exists, is unsustainable long term unless benefits are severely reduced, taxes are severely raised, or the age of receiving the benefits are moved further and further out. Gore and the Democrats want the issue for political reasons, and don't really want to address the underlying structural demographic problems in order to ensure the system is viable for our children's, children.
They simply want to drive fear into elderly Americans and scare them into believing their benefits will be severely reduced, when in all likely-hood, they will be dead when the structural decay becomes apparent.
Whopper Al and the Democrat simply want to pass on the problem of structural unsustainability to the next generation.
George Bush wants to free us from the socialistic model, and give power back where it belongs in a society built on the principles of liberty and freedom. |
