I disagree there is a material strategic advantage to ATT/Cingular and nextel choosing CDMA. The fact is that if they were to shun GSM it would encourage adoption in other places like CHINA happening sooner. It would also make for a faster upgrade. The fact is CDMA2000 is here now, Wcdma is a multple step process. If ATT were to go GSM they would probably take longer to get to WCDMA due to cost. If they went IS95 they could imidiatly go to 1xrt. I agree over the long term it is irrelevent, but Irwin said the faster the better and a choice of IS95 is a choice for CDMA2000 which is a quiker path. IMHO
