Roger, thanks for the clarification. Since I have plenty of margin to play with on this Zitel short, what you wrote makes me feel more comfortable riding it out.

What causes a call for return of borrowed shares? More importantly, are there certain brokerages where a shorter is more vulnerable to having his shares called away?

The one time my short was called away was through Ceres...Ameritrade is the clearing house for this firm. I ignored the call, but the shares were taken away anyway at the end of the day.

Anyone else had their shares of a certain short called away? If so, by what broker?
