KB,

Good points on Japan. I don't believe the tech bubble will effect the U S economy for 10 years, but it will last a lot longer than the last nine months. I do recall the pigeon joke and lots of others like it. Those were very sad days, people without jobs walking away from their homes and the mortgages they couldn't pay anymore.

Remember the slogans "stay alive till 85", "get a fix in 86", "Chapter 11 in 87" etc. I still have my Houston Poor starter kit. It has the caution " If you can afford this kit, you may not qualify as a member of Houston Poor on the label. The kit includes a Houston Poor T-shirt and a Houston Poor bumper sticker. It was a popular gag gift for some of the corporate restructure parties we had at Tony's wine cellar and the River Oaks County Club in the late 80's.

The main point is it takes a long time for the effects of an unwinding of a bubble to show up in the economy. We have not even begun to see the strains it will place on the financial community, which will be severe.
