- You don't need to buy cases - this offsets quite a bit of the cost of the racks themselves.

I am not sure what kind of setup you have. Do you not have each individual node in it's own case? If you do, desktop or minitower is between $30 and $100, rack cases are $100 to $400

- You can use one or two big power supplies instead of one per node.

Are you talking about UPS or system power supplies? I haven't seen power supplies with multiple motherboard connectors, but if it existed, it would defeat the reliability that multinode clusters offers, since this monster power supply would bring down a bunch of nodes with it if it died.
