Who do you think will be reach (production) .13mu first? I'm certainly not convinced it will be AMD and I'm also certainly not convinced that going with SOI is the right move. It might be "better", but if it costs you 6+ months...

And that's pretty much a worst-case scenario. For speeds at and below 700MHz, Intel can drop their voltage to 1.35 from 1.6 (i.e. you can buy a 700MHz mobile P3 @ 1.35V). So, basically, AMD needs about a factor of 2 just to catch up! IIRC, claims are that SOI can reduce heat dissipation by something like 30%. That's a lot, but even that is not enough.
