The key factor you miss is the huge US trade deficit and massive foreign debt. These did not exist a decade ago. Our standard of living will be lot lower when we can no longer exchange dollars created out of thin air for real goods and services from abroad. The US is living way beyond its means and this cannot continue much longer.
