Canada to offer nationwide, one-stop, boadband and telcom services:

VISION.COM TO OFFER DEDICATED LOCAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES
OTTAWA, May 22 /CNW/ via Individual Inc. -- vision.com
members announced today that they have entered into an
agreement to provide dedicated local telecommunications services
on a national basis.
Many vision.com members already offer telecommunications
services as Competitive Access Providers (CAPs) in a variety of
markets and as a group have invested more than $200 million in
facilities. Today's agreement will provide large businesses with
``one-stop shopping'' for advanced local telecommunications
services in Halifax, all major centres in New Brunswick, Montreal,
Quebec City, Windsor, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington,
Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary,
Edmonton, and Vancouver.
Together vision.com members will offer such services as digital
channels at speeds from DS-0 to DS-3, connectivity services at
LAN speeds for ethernet, token ring, FDDI and broadband ATM
transport services, as well as video broadcast, surveillance and
distribution services.
This initiative is a first step in positioning the cable industry to
take full advantage of the CRTC's recent decision to open the
local telecommunications market to greater competition.
``This is vision.com's second major initiative,'' said Jim Shaw Jr.,
vision.com's Chairman. ``In November we launched WAVE(TM)'',
today we're joining forces to position ourselves as a serious
competitor in the competitive access business.''
vision.com is a consortium of Canada's largest cable companies
designed to carry out research and develop new products and
services in the areas of digital television, Internet access and
telecommunications. Members participating in this CAP initiative
include Access Cable Television Limited, Cogeco Cable Inc.,
Fundy Cable Limited, Rogers Network Services, Shaw FiberLink,
Videotron Telecom Ltee, and Westlink Datalink Corporation,
Videon CableSystems and Cable Regina.
