That's my point. The United States for too long has unilaterally shouldered this burden. Why? Because we have always felt that if we finance it, then we can call all the shots.

How many years has the American taxpayer paid for the "defense" of Japan?

The Japanese, the Europeans, our allies in the Middle East all need to take a more active role in peace-keeping missions, both in terms of money and manpower.

Here's another idea: Let Russia join NATO.
