Tony,

Not the ones embedded in chips on the motherboard. Once embedded, they become very cheap, and they become an entry barrier to the white box types.

You can make a case for embedding things on motherboard, but once you move beyond embedding cheap video and cheap network card, it becomes difficult. How much value does and integrated SCSI add? The standard probably changed 5 times in the last 5 years.

I think you can make a case for embedding stuff to low to mid end motherboards that go to low profile servers.

The real barrier to entry to cheap boxes has been 64-bit PCI and corresponding higher quality cards.

But even this barrier is falling. You can buy motherboards based on the Serverworks chipsets from Asus and Supermicro that have these features. 760-MP based motherboards will be here as well in a few months.
