There is a need for Big Government in more areas of society, as compared to 10-20-30 years ago. Examples include: More policing of white-collar crime. More policing of SEC violators. More policing of Big Business polluters. More policing of safety standards, i.e., faulty tires that kill people. To assume that "less government" would be better in any of the above four categories is nonsense. One of the reasons we have more government today is because Big Business has failed to live up to its societal responsibilities. And yet GWB wants government to abdicate its watchdog role in several areas and let Big Business "voluntarily" comply.
