You ever hear of a chicken plucker who made enough to do more than get by? I did do it for a living, remember? Sure, it's a fine job. A decent job that provides something that people want. But only the owners and execs made the money. And I was single, I had it good. Try supporting a family on the wages, or sending your kids to college. Or to know that you will likely end up with constant pain from the injuries you incur doing the repetive work. Or to grow up thinking that's all you can ever aspire to, not because it's not a decent job, but because that's all you were born for. The kids here deserve more than that. Are you really trying to imply in your responses that I'm downing Alabama, rather than looking at her honestly and wanting a good life for the people here? Or that I am putting down a job that I did myself? I was one of the very few white people at the plant. Funny how the whites in town didn't think it good enough. But that was in California, and they had more choices. They could leave those jobs to people more desparate.
