jhp, let me take one sided (benefits only) approach to its extreme.

would it be appropriate for hitler to say he provided few housing housing to the jews?

an intellectually honest person, imho, would ask, but at what cost and in what conditions.

hitler's cronies would just repeat,

"the jews benefit from a roof over their head."

"the jews benefit from a roof over their head."

"the jews benefit from a roof over their head."

of course, this is an EXTREME example. sometimes extreme helps to illuminate the logical conclusion of one's path.

i wouldn't fall to that kind of approach. nor do i fall for your approach - which is the EXACT same approach. focus on a benefit and ignore a discourse on the costs.

i would debate that the cost of such free housing and the conditions of the free housing were net negative for the jews.

hitler's cronies, no doubt, would then engage in an ad hominem attack about my being selfish for not saying "thank you" for the wonderful jewish "free housing" program.

sound familiar? -ng-
