Here is some more info which may well explain
the rise in the Q. I have been chatting with my
contacts at McData regarding outfitting the EMC
Clarion line. I have learned that Qlogic switches
are GA and installations are taking place and
arriving at customer sites. Keep in mind the
flow: Qlogic --> McData --> EMC. Don't know the
volume yet but the spigot is on.

Note that the old Data General (now EMC) Clarion
used to be a Brocade exclusive and has helped
that company enormously. Guess what? A new
sheriff is in town. Furthermore, the Clarion
with Qlogic runs like blazes. So fast in fact
that outperforms the EMC Symmetrix which raised
a lot of eyebrows. This bit of intelligence
has been kept under the radar for obvious corporate
reasons. Symmetrix engineers are rewriting some
microcode I would imagine.

My guess is we will see a lot of jive about the
dual source at Comdex the week after next.

I expect that Brocade will report blow out numbers
at the end of the month. The Q will show its stuff
at the next two conference calls. Smart handlers
will try to "float everybody's boat" in the storage
world. Where Q stands to gain is in the leadership
perception.

Sun is most definitely a Q exclusive. The Brocade
rumors are bogus.

I sold all of my Net Appliance a couple weeks ago. NTAP
is on a lot of hit lists to include EMC, Dell, Compaq,
and Sun (bought Colbalt). They will see ruthless
competition in the next two quarters.
