that statement struck me too... may just be my next screen saver ;-)

And all along I thought it was (development of) language that was the most significant event for mankind. Without that, I bet the engineering types (cf. those who lurk here) would have a devil of a time coordinating an advancement beyond, say, woodworking. I mean how many grunts and dirt drawings would it take to construct a lever/pulley system such that one could build the pyramids?
