Zeev, Historically, the stock market has done 50% plus better under democratic administrations than republican ones. Not to get too repetitive, but I saw on a newscast recently a comparison that went into more detail on these statistics, breaking them out by the party of the president and party of Congress (so 4 possible situations). The mixed environments (Democratic President and Republican Congress, or Republican President and Democratic Congress) took the two leading positions with respect to returns for the market, with a Democratic president and Republican Congress in the leading spot (I'm sorry, I don't remember the numbers, but they were in the range you quoted). While they didn't attempt an explanation, my theory is that in this situation, the Congressional Republicans put together the budget and tended to be more fiscally responsible, and hence the markets trusted them more, knowing as well that a Republican Congress would probably pass more "business-friendly" laws.
