Well, I still think we're precariously perched between a soft and hard landing.

But over the short term, I would think the market is just trying to make it through to January and the next pension refunding, and figures that neither guy can do anything crazy until they are sworn in next year.

But long term, Gore is certainly worse for the markets than Bush. What he calls a Social Security "Surplus" is, in fact, a stealthly way of increasing their annual federal budget, which they must spend. And every extra dollar they take in extra tax revenues, is a dollar that is removed from the private economy.

And since the surplus is just being spent on pork barrel projects and not being solely dedicated to infrastructure, retraining workers, or innovative technologies, we might as well just let the American people keep it and get themselves out of debt and funding their own pension plans.
