Hi John,

Do you have any idea how many fridges G.E. sells a year. I do and the number is meaningless to a company like MSFT. Even if they sold each software package on a fridge for the entire industry for $10 per unit, the total revenue figure would around $100K. Yes that is incremental but...

As for 80% replacement of exisitng base; so what. Yes, MSFT will remain a truly amazing and profitable company. But 80% of a installed based means that they have to make up the remaining 20% with new sales to get to equilibrium. It is projected that PC sales will continue to be soft in 2001 and flat to down in 2002. .net better bring in some new incremental revenue of MSFT revenue growth rate is in deep s.... But they will remain to be one of the most profitable companies in the world. Just not that important.

Bob.
