Joe: The judicial system is a farce anyway. Those who believe that justice is served fairly the majority of the time also believe in Santa Claus.

It's no better in the States. I watched a documentary a few weeks ago, and the estimate is that 20 to 30 percent of the guys who are on death row are the wrong guys. "Golly, but at least we got SOMEONE to take the rap. Makes us cops look reeeeeeal good."

Seems cops like to get confessions by beating the crap out of people and threatening their families with bodily harm and death. Even criminals have, for the most part, some ties to family - and the cops know it (everyone has a momma).

I have only ever been to court to defend myself on a traffic ticket. It was a whitewash. As far as the judge and the cop were concerned, I was guilty before I entered the courtroom. I was aghast. The judge even had the gall to peer down at me from the bench and tell me not to use big words that I didn't understand. Imagine! I am doing my frigging best to back up my defense with a legal argument, and the judge tells me to forget it!

I did get a compliment from the court clerk afterward - she walked up to me as I was paying my fine and said, "You did a fine job representing yourself." I agreed with her, and she walked away smiling.

It was a good lesson for me - if I am ever charged with a really serious crime, I think I'll pick a jury as opposed to just a judge (assuming I have the choice).
