Joe: Re: UAW getting paid day off tomorrow:

Don't blame the UAW, blame management's bargaining team if you don't like the idea. Takes two sides to agree to something like this. But this day off is pretty much a no-brainer. It gives tens of thousands of workers the opportunity to put democracy in action. Also sets a great example of "getting involved" for the young people of this country. No doubt it's disconcerting to some that the UAW membership spends its day off in a hands-on civics project rather than deer hunting. I saw on TV last night that 150 Texans from the rich burbs are in Michigan to promote D-Dubya-I in that state. But wait a minute. That's far different than what the UAW membership is doing, correct?

My wife, who is a teacher and NEA member, is also off tomorrow.
