Jim: Heres an interesting story from USA Today:

A snippet:

With campaigning down to its final day, latest state polls
show that while Bush has a thin lead nationally, Gore is
nudging ahead in the Electoral College.
When you add the states that are close, but leaning toward
one candidate or the other, both fall short of 270 electoral
votes. Gore, however, is slightly closer to the magic number:
Gore leads in 17 states and the District of Columbia for
252 electoral votes.
Bush leads in 28 states for 250 electoral votes.
