Hi John, regarding USRX... I owed this to Axle as well... During the Conf. last week USRX said: They like both ADSL & Cable mdems, because the intro of both would require the modem and the headend and both fall into their territory. However, at this point they didn't see any sign that either would be implemented wide spread. They don't see any signs that the cable companies would spend the money to make cable modems biderictional and that's a problem. If and when they see committment from telcos for ADSL they would get into the ADSL business. They think it would take them 6 months to have a product out. They would also design the chipset (I was shocked to hear this) and let someone else build it for them... Currently they aren't working on it. Now remember, this could be just the 'current official line' and they may be doing something but don't want to show their hands. I was surprised to see them say 'they don't see widespread deployment soon' and I was surprised at the 6 months especially with the chipset in there! So I am somewhat suspicious, either they aren't awake or they aren't saying... Philip, Franco and others: thanks for the support and good luck with your trades. Alvin: I think the timing of the news release had to be at SuperComm96 to get the huge attention. Last week would have looked too defensive and wouldn't have seen the same publicity. I think they handled Greenberg very well last week. Sticks: Thanks for the info on DirecTV and network channels. That part wasn't mentioned in the article I read. We have too many arcane laws in this country :) Bill C.: no haven't seen anything about the cable modem technology from Amati yet. It may be another thing they are keeping quiet for now... but have noticed the mention in company descriptions as well... Hope all of you read all the threads here since I don't have time to do separate posts... must go & pack. Talk to you in a couple of days. Techie
