Talk Visual to Launch Sites for Videocalling in Dominican Republic; Trials Underway With Government Telephone Company
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2000--(OTC-BB: TVCP). TALK VISUAL CORPORATION President Eugene A. Rosov announced today that the Company is engaged in operational videocall trials with Codetel, the government telephone company of the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is one of the top destinations for international telephone calls from the United States.
"We're pleased to be working with Codetel on this strategically important project to Talk Visual," said Mr. Rosov, from the Company's headquarters in Miami FL. "Within the next month, we will open locations for videocalling in Santo Domingo, and perhaps in other major Dominican cities. Today, our retail operations send over a quarter of a million voice minutes monthly to the Dominican Republic. We plan to grow that to at least half a million voice minutes by Christmas, and to supplement voice minutes with videocall minutes. The marginal revenues from videocalling are significantly higher than the margins on voice minutes."
The Company currently plans to charge between one and two dollars per minute for videocalls to and from the Dominican Republic. According to Mr. Rosov, "the Company has found that a price of one or two dollars a minute is not out of line when bundled into a twenty-minute videocall. This type of service is viewed by expatriates as a once-a-month opportunity, unlike the regular weekly telephone calls made to relatives abroad. We continue to believe that the demographic forces driving telecommunications have created an exceptional opportunity for our Company "
IBM PURCHASES VIDEOPHONES FROM TALK VISUAL FOR USE IN LATIN AMERICA
In other news, the Company announced that it has sold four TV225 videophones to IBM divisions in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The Company believes that IBM is testing the combination of its video services - bridging and multi-point service- and superior quality desktop video units as a method to connect its executives from around the world, at minimal cost, and with high quality. "We see this as a harbinger of other sales to major American corporations domestically and in Latin America," said Mr. Rosov.
