First, Sony claims they actually saved money with RDRAM.

And second, Sony has much bigger problems on their plate than the cost of RDRAM (which they probably buy at bargain contract prices anyway). Shortage of PSX2 CPU and graphics chips leading to a shortage of PSX2 systems in the midst of ultra-high demand. Also because of the demand, Sony is literally using Fed Ex to ship PSX2 boxes to retailers as soon as possible.

On the other hand, I really doubt that Sony is cursing the high demand for PSX2. If only AMD had such problems with their newly-released DDR platform ...
