Intel Investors - Another StrongArm design win for Intel !

This appears to be for smaller, vertical market applications.

"Its large touch screen provides plenty of space for applications, and the combination of a 206 MHz Intel SA1110 processor, up to 64 MB of RAM and up to 32 MB of flash memory, provides for industry-leading performance."

TouchStar Launches New Voyager CE Handheld, Changes Paradigm for Mobile Computing

TULSA, Okla., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- TouchStar Technologies, a unit of Williams (NYSE: WMB - news), announced today the new TouchPC Voyager(TM) handheld computer, providing state-of-the-art levels of performance, expandability and usability to field sales, service, delivery and operations personnel users worldwide.

With the Voyager, TouchStar has achieved several industry firsts, including:

The first handheld to incorporate Windows CE 3.0 with a 6-inch full Video Graphics Array color screen.
The first CE handheld to offer a wide variety of integrated peripherals including printers, scanners and cellular phones.
The first handheld with integrated Ethernet, Compact Flash, and personal computer card slots.
``The global market is demanding solutions that provide real world usability. That's what TouchStar and our TouchPC family have always delivered,'' said Mark Morelli, president of TouchStar. ``Small screens and limited functionality just don't stand up to the rigors of day-to-day use in tough environments. Voyager is designed to specifically overcome those concerns.''

Designed for demanding use in the field, the Voyager is extremely rugged, waterproof and very easy to use. Its large touch screen provides plenty of space for applications, and the combination of a 206 MHz Intel SA1110 processor, up to 64 MB of RAM and up to 32 MB of flash memory, provides for industry-leading performance.

``Powered by Windows CE 3.0, Voyager opens up entirely new markets and possibilities for end users, software developers and systems integrators,'' Morelli said.

``We are very excited about the new TouchPC Voyager which takes advantage of the rich application support, connectivity and ease of use of the Windows CE 3.0 platform,'' said Keith White, director of marketing for the embedded and appliance platforms group at Microsoft. ``The Voyager's large screen and ability to expand will allow field workers around the world to take advantage of the familiar Windows CE graphical user interface and truly deliver on the promise of robust mobile computing.''

Expansion options include both Compact Flash and PC Card slots, two serial ports, Ethernet, Infrared Data Association (IrDA) and the exclusive TouchPC EndCap(TM). EndCap options will include 2-inch and 3-inch printers, laser scanner, Mag Stripe reader, Smart Card reader/writer, and several wireless options including Global Standard for Mobile phone, Cellular Digital Packet Data cellular phone, Mobitex radio, DataTac radio and Cellular Digital Packet Data radio. The EndCap allows for combinations of the above devices to create an EndCap specific to an application, such as a 2-inch printer combined with a laser scanner, Mag Stripe reader and Global Standard for Mobile phone for a field sales application.

The Voyager has two vehicle-ready cradle options, the SmartBase(TM) and the EtherBase(TM). The SmartBase is also powered by a StrongARM processor and embedded CE 3.0, and provides battery charging, three additional serial ports, a parallel port, Infrared Data Association, Ethernet and additional Compact Flash and PC Card slots creating extensive expansion options.

In addition to its flexible communications, the ability to actually run software applications on the SmartBase cradle creates new possibilities for mobile computing. With its wireless capability, Voyager can utilize devices in the vehicle such as printers, radios, vehicle monitors, electronic registers and other items while up to 2,000 feet away. For less demanding applications, the EtherBase provides for Ethernet capability and battery charging.

Voyager, SmartBase and EtherBase will all be available in limited quantities for development beginning in January 2001 and will be available in production quantities later in the first quarter 2001. TouchStar will make the Voyager Software Developers Kit available in December to allow customers, developers and integrators to get their applications Voyager enabled.
