Mitsui Chemicals Selects Manugistics NetWORKS(TM) as FoundationFor New Supply Chain Management System

TOKYO, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MANU), a leading global provider of intelligent supply chain and eBusiness solutions for enterprises and evolving trading networks, today announced that Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., Japan's leading chemical company, has selected Manugistics NetWORKS(TM) solutions to help create an advanced corporate-wide supply chain management system.

Mitsui plans to implement the new system across all of its business areas, encompassing more than 20,000 items. The company seeks improved, more effective, operations at its distribution centers across Japan, more agile and proactive business operations, and improved cash flow.

Mitsui selected Manugistics' solutions after a two-month feasibility study. The selection was made easier with the help of a Manugistics Supply Chain Compass(TM) Impact Assessment, which gave Mitsui a look at benefits that could result from the implementation.

The company said that Manugistics was the only technology provider with sufficient experience and insight to offer solutions that could address issues confronting it now, as well as those it may face in the future.

"We are very pleased to have been selected by Mitsui Chemicals; this represents a significant milestone for Manugistics in Japan as we seek to accelerate the adoption of our proven supply chain and eBusiness solutions," said Rich Bergmann, Manugistics' executive vice president of global sales and services. "Mitsui recognizes that Manugistics has the industry expertise, technology, and commitment needed to help leading global companies succeed in the fiercely competitive chemical industry."

Manugistics' solutions will help Mitsui create an optimized inventory and distribution plan for finished goods which considers logistics and production constraints against changing demands. The chemical company produces a wide variety of products in continuous flow as well as batch operations, with the finished goods taking gas, liquid or powder form.

A pilot phase will involve Mitsui's polyethylene and ethyl carbamate departments. Once completed, the corporate-wide implementation will qualify as one of the largest supply chain projects in Japan.
