Secrets of Fab30 revealed! Well, maybe. Perhaps you remember my posts about the "stealth addition" to Fab30. Well I think I have it sussed, the new addition is likely a cleanroom to house an oxygen implantation facility for producing SOI wafers for the Hammer series. According to the German article, construction will be completed by the end of April, so it is possible that they will start implanting wafers by the beginning of Q3. An interesting idea is if AMD will produce SOI Mustangs along with the Hammers, IBM estimates a 30% increase in speed over regular copper at the same geometries. So Mustang could easily exceed 2GHz in 0.18 micron and probably hit 3GHz at 0.13 micron. If the Mustang has an IPC advantage over the Athlon, however small, the P4 is dead. Since Intel themselves admit that the P4 is 10-20% slower in IPC... developer.intel.com Thanks to Hans DeVries for this!
