| No. I think slavery is wrong, was wrong, no matter where it is. I grew up in the Deep South when it was still segregated, and I know how wrong that was. I don't suppose many people on this website, much less this thread, remember Jim Crow segregation, but I do, very well. It was horrible, more horrible than you can imagine. I remember, when I was working at Women's Hospital in Baton Rouge, that miscarried black babies were kept segregated from miscarried white babies. The free clinic I used to go to for my vaccinations had two waiting rooms, white and "colored." The library on the main floor of the LSU library has two water fountains, and I know why - one was for whites, and one was for "colored." I remember when black people rode in the back of the bus. I am white, but I used to sit back there, too. It's not history to me, I lived it. |
