“Informatics Supporting Chemical Genomics at Iconix”

Abstract

The Genomics industry has evolved from Structural Genomics companies (large scale EST sequencing and disease gene mapping) to Functional Genomics (determination of gene function using model organisms and other technologies). Iconix Pharmaceuticals has identified Chemical Genomics as the next great wave of the genomics industry. Chemical Genomics is the annotation of interactions between a diverse collection of small "lead" compounds and all gene products from the human genome. This presents a number of challenges pertaining to data acquisition, management and analysis. These needs merge the fields of bioinformatics and Chemoinformatics. The required technologies include sequence analysis, molecular modeling, construction and integration of diverse databases, laboratory automation, statistical analysis, data mining and
software engineering. Informatics system must be robust, scalable and easy to use to support the information that will eventually populate the system. Some of these systems will be described.

Everyone Welcome!!!
