Interphase Fibre Channel Host Adapters Power Award-Winning Video Server
Provides Fibre Channel Network Interface for Grass Valley Group's Emmy Award-Winning Profile XP Media Platform
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2000-- Interphase Corporation (Nasdaq:INPH - news) has announced that its PowerSAN(TM) Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) have been chosen to provide the network interface for the Grass Valley Group's Emmy® award-winning Profile XP Media Platform.
Storage performance is critical to today's video editing systems because the quality of video edits deteriorates as the compression ratio used to transfer video files goes up. Interphase PowerSAN Fibre Channel HBAs are well suited for these applications because of their high data throughput rates and scalable performance. Using PowerSAN adapters, video clips are transferred from Profile XP Media Platform systems over a high-speed Fibre Channel network in a compressed native format, eliminating the need to control the quality of the clips at their destination. By keeping the media in this format, workgroups can share media quickly and reliably without generation loss.
The Grass Valley Group is a digital media leader and works with preeminent content producers including the four major United States networks, additional cable channels and numerous network affiliates throughout the world including television groups in England, Sweden, the Netherlands, China, India and Australia. The Profile XP Media Platform offers proven performance in critical broadcast situations, and has been used in several recent highly watched broadcast events such as the 72nd Academy Awards®, the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the World Series.
``Our customers have told us they need new approaches to their businesses to win in this multi-channel, multi-format video world, as well as through traditional distribution channels such as terrestrial broadcast, cable and satellite,'' said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Grass Valley Group. ``Interphase PowerSAN adapters maximize the high-speed capabilities of the Profile XP Media Platform. Customers can move files up to 30 to 40 times faster than play speed. This helps us to speed the transfer of digital video, audio and data assets, while at the same time maintain the broadcast quality video and audio for which the Profile line is known.''
``We're pleased to play a part in helping the Grass Valley Group enable broadcasters and video professionals to access and distribute the content that keeps the world informed and entertained in the new millennium,'' said Greg Kalush, Interphase president and CEO. ``As the on-air and online worlds continue to converge, digital video is being increasingly deployed in a variety of settings from traditional broadcast and telecommunications networks to the Internet. Our PowerSAN architecture has proven to provide the performance and reliability required by the new media applications.' |
