Keith,

<< Luna is a journalist ... enlightened convert)

She sure is (journalist). Also a rather trite rumor monger who has yet to call a correct shot. Surely she will do so one of these days however.

Interesting that her Nov. 6 "Telephony" article uses the same old "said a source familiar with BellSouth’s plans" and "sources close to BellSouth say" that she used in her Sept 11, RCR article on the same topic.

As a somewhat cautious wireless investor, those kinds of statements don't give me a real warm and fuzzy particularly since Lynette has worked since 1995 for the magazine that in 1995 was projecting a AT&T Wireless (McGaw) CDMA tech decision only weeks before 'T' announced (what everybody else suspected) for IS-136 TDMA.

Now this Lunaism gets real interesting:

Already, BellSouth International is making the decision to overlay CDMA-based 1XRTT technology over its existing TDMA networks in Latin America.

Do you perchance have any confirmation that BellSouth International or Cingular have made a contractual commitment to do such an overlay?

It would be nice, to be sure. We are due.

It might even lend some credence to this Lunabit:

"BellSouth is very heavily leaning toward CDMA as an overlay eventually in all of its markets over the course of a three-year period," said a source familiar with BellSouth’s plans.

If all this happens, rest assured, I'll start taking Lynette a little more seriously. After all, we will have been tipped off by her, well in advance.

<< She is in the group of enlightened converts that used to bash QCOM without any regard. Same with the analyst from Paine Webber >>

Do you mean good old Walt P. who sent us rocketing to the moon last week of December with a thesis that did not hold water? Enlightened converts like him I can do without.

Best,

- Eric -
