BBC News 1800 GMT **US Election Special**

Americans are casting their vote in the presidential elections in what appears to be the tightest contest in forty years. Despite months of ceaseless campaigning from both sides turnout is expected to be lowest ever. Millions of voters don't care or are undecided which candidate to support.

Many more, however, are going to stay away from polling stations for a different reason. Government is concerned with increasing numbers of overweight voters who will simply not fit into a polling booth.

Our correspondent caught up with one of these voters as he was paying for his jumbo burgers at a special wide checkout in the local Walmart.

"I sure do wanna vote", said grotesquely overweight Nite-Man, police volunteer who works as a janitor in a mental institution in Boston. "But I guess I ain't going. Last time I had to wait for the fire brigade to get me out of the friggin booth."
