Yes, Kenneth, this race does look a lot like '68. Humphrey was a dove, and against the war, but could never separate himself from LBJ.

The Wallace vote in '68 was a total non-issue. Had he not run, his votes would easily have gone to Nixon as by 1968, the Goldwater effect of changing the south to the repubs had taken firm hold. Wallace running actually helped Humphrey, but it was not enough to give him the win.
