NEW YORK -- Intel Corp. (INTC) achieved an "important milestone" by completing the development of 0.13 micron technology, said Sunlin Chou, vice president and general manager, technology and manufacturing group.
During a conference call to brief analysts and the press on its progress in 0.13 micron development Tuesday, Chou said Intel is the first to develop the technology and demonstrate it with integrated circuits and microprocessor chips.
Mark Bohr, an Intel fellow, director of process architecture and integration, said the 0.13 micron technology is being developed in a fabrication plant in Oregon and will begin production in the first half of next year. By the end of 2002 or early 2003, he said, up to nine factories will be running 0.13 micron technology on 200-millimeter and 300-millimeter wafers.
Intel expects to see the 0.13 micron technology used in all of its high-performance microprocessors, said Bohr, adding that its "logical" to expect the Pentium's to use this technology.
