Tokyo, Nov. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Hitachi Ltd., a Japan's largest electronics maker, will start selling personal digital assistants and providing online content services by the beginning of 2002, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, citing unnamed company sources.
The global market for personal digital assistants, or PDAs, is expected to triple to 30 million units by 2003, the paper said.
Hitachi intends to catch up with U.S.-based Palm Inc., which currently has half of the market, the paper said. Casio Computer Co. and Sharp Corp. have already introduced competing products.
Hitachi's product will be able to download data from the Internet by connecting with mobile phones, the report said. (Nihon Keizai, 11/8, p.13) For the Nihon Keizai Web site, see {NKEI } |
