I don't know that I'm right. So there's no reason we can't discuss it a little. I just happened to read that article and it made a point I never considered.

Like I said, my father retired a "handful" of years ago. His peak earnings year was just over 25K. My mother made in the mid teens at her peak. I have one brother. I don't know where you live, but that combo doesn't go very far in NY when you are raising a family. So we were obviously at the very low end of middle class.

I ran the SS numbers for my father and he would have been better off with an IRA like retirement rather than SS.

So I think it's safe to assume that everyone from the lower middle class and up is getting screwed. Furthermore, I would argue that the life expectancy of African Americans and many other minority groups - who are among the poorer Americans as a group - really get screwed because they die younger.

The only counter to this total disaster is that my grandfather barely put in a dime and he lived for a long time and collected plenty. Some of that money will wind up with my aunts and uncles.
