It took 15 years for the RCMP to get around to making arrests in the Air India bombing.

They also have another set of investigations going on:

Job-grant crime probes swell to 19
14 in Atlantic Canada: Many more investigations may remain undisclosed

Robert Fife, Ottawa Bureau Chief
National Post
(originally reported on Thursday, March 09, 2000)

OTTAWA - The breadth and scope of police investigations into possible illegal misuse of federal job-creation grants and loans to businesses and organizations is much wider than the Liberal government has indicated to Parliament.

The number of police investigations into Liberal government make-work projects totals at least 19, although there may be many more that have yet to be disclosed, the National Post has learned.

Sources say the RCMP has 14 ongoing criminal inquiries involving the Human Resources Department and a federal economic development agency in Atlantic Canada alone.

Jane Stewart, the Human Resources Minister, shocked MPs on March 1 when she told Parliament that there were seven RCMP investigations and two local police investigations as well as one forensic audit into various HRDC grants and contributions programs.

On Monday, the number of known police investigations increased to 10 when Ms. Stewart's office called in the RCMP to probe the awarding of a $165,984 HRDC grant in the Saint-Maurice riding of Jean Chretien, the Prime Minister.

There are now three RCMP investigations involving HRDC job-creation grants in Mr. Chretien's constituency.

more . . . .

I find it amazing that nothing more has been reported on these investigations since last April. Has anyone else heard what is the status or outcome of these cases?

Or will we have to wait 15 years to learn the result of these investigations too?
