NHC communications makes first sale into convention center segment of MTU/MDU market

Remote cross connection system sold to PCS World expected to be deployed at New York's Jacob Javits Center

MONTREAL, Nov. 8 /CNW/ - NHC Communications Inc. (TSE: NHC - news) today announced that PCS World has selected NHC's ControlPoint(TM) remotely managed copper cross connect system as its supplier of first choice to build complete voice and data networks for convention centers and other dynamic telecommunications sites.
The first unit has already been delivered to PCS World and is scheduled to be installed shortly in the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. This ControlPoint(TM) unit was invoiced for an amount of CA$200,000. PCS World has indicated that it plans to deploy the ControlPoint(TM) solution to its potential customer base of 350 convention centers across the United States.

"The contract with PCS World demonstrates that NHC's solution can provide both voice and data services to all segments of our core Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs), Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and Multi Tenant Unit/Multi Dwelling Unit (MTU/MDU) markets," said Sylvain Abitbol, President and CEO of NHC Communications. "The convention center segment is one of the most important niches in the MTU/MDU market. In fact, the MTU/MDU market is expected to represent approximately 30% of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) industry sales by 2005.

PCS World, a provider of telecommunications primarily to the convention industry, universities, hotels and office buildings, stated that it chose NHC's ControlPoint(TM) solution to save the company up to 30 percent in labor costs and to revolutionize service delivery in the company's New York City operations. NHC's solution will help to provide PCS World with complete control over the entire service delivery life cycle from provisioning to service turn up/down, and repair.

Setting up and tearing down temporary communications at venues such as convention centers is expensive. Traditionally it requires the manual connecting and disconnecting of thousands of under floor cables that run to a control box and eventually to exhibition booths and dormitory rooms. PCS World estimates that labor costs alone average more than $1 million annually per convention center.

"We tested the top three cross-connect solutions available on the market and NHC's was the only true any-to-any solution, capable of large-scale, non- blocking cross connections," said Victor Sarcinella of PCS World. "Furthermore, the NHC's ControlPoint(TM) solution is fully integrated with the wide band/narrow band tester and can manage several convention centers remotely from one network operations center. We believe this is the best solution to help us aggressively expand in our key market."
