While we were chatting about EC votes, I did find the '76 and '68 situations. I might guess that the attempts to get rid of the EC died partially because there hadn't been a discrepency between EC and popular vote since 1888. Your analogy on the World Series was enjoyable, and it seems to make sense to me; but I'm not a big sports fan. Though the EC was set up to prevent very popular regional candidates from taking the Executive Branch at the disadvantage of the country at large. I think to abolish the EC might result in campaigning to achieve very popular regional candidates. jttmab
