Collins to president and CEO, effective Nov. 1, 2000. Collins had been serving as chief operating officer and member of the board of directors. In making the announcement, John Russell, chairman of the board of directors stated: "The board of directors selected Hal because of experience and industry expertise. He has tremendous insight to Ultra's business needs, and will provide the company with the commitment, integrity and vision needed at this point in its growth. Hal has proven to us during his term as COO that he has all the qualifications needed to run this company." Collins joined the company in the fall of 1998, serving as vice president and general counsel until April of 2000, when he was appointed as the company's chief operating officer following the resignation of the company's former president and CEO. Collins has also served on the company's board of directors since February of 2000. A long-time motorcycle enthusiast, Collins maintained a successful private law practice from 1977 until the time he joined the company in 1998. Collins holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from California State University at Los Angeles, and a juris doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles.
