Scumbria, <I suspect that Nader is quite pleased with himself.>

According to the Nader campaign, Gore wanted to be even more right-leaning than he is now. Then Nader gained momentum, and Gore had to adopt a lot of the leftist policies of the Green Party. This, according to Nader, kept the Democratic party honest to its progressive roots. It also kept the race extremely close.

Had Gore not adopted much of the Green Party platform, Nader argues, Gore would have lost many more votes to the Green Party.

P.S. - Wasn't the Republican party in danger of splitting over the abortion issue?
