That's because, 200 years ago, there were consequences for dishonesty. If a gentleman's honor was questioned, it meant public disgrace, and a duel (like when Burr killed Hamilton). Today, there are no consequences for the President, even when he lies under oath to a court, and lies to the country, repeatedly and flagrantly. I am in the process to teaching honesty to my 4-year-old. He will learn, just as the older children learned, because the consequences of unacceptable behavior will be immediate and inevitable. Not harsh, but swift and certain. Until we apply those principles to our leaders, we will get exactly the government we deserve.
