Linda: I have a better idea. Schedule big national elections over two days ... the first Saturday and Sunday in November. The weekend after Halloween. Polls open at 6 and close at 6 on the Saturday. But all the polls would close at the same time on Sunday: 6 p.m. in the Eastern Time Zone, 3 p.m. in the Western Time Zone. That way everyone, not just the committed Americans who belong to the UAW, would have plenty of time to vote, and unions wouldn't have to negotiate a day off to practice civics. Everyone, in effect, could then "get out the vote."

Repubs would never go for this, though.

What do you think of this idea?
