Some of you veterans might remember my "Bad day at Black Rock" Doomsday scenario that I developed where an elec vote tie of 269-269 occurred, the House could not develop a state majority to elect a Pres, and the Senate tied 50-50 and could not elect a VP.At which point, I asked what would then happen? It was a 20000 to 1 shot because I, foolishly, had only considered the odds of a 269-269 tie.

At present, a 269-269 tie can't occur, but I am not sure if the House has a state majority as yet, and the Senate could go 50-50.

Now, consider this. We all know that when lawyers get involved, an Einsteinian form of time dilation occurs. It is distinctly possible that this whole issue of the ballots in Palm Beach and other things that lawyers can dig up could drag this thing way past Dec. 15 when the Elec College MUST by law vote.

In that event, is it not possible that the 25 electoral votes in FL do not get assigned in time and thus are essentially eliminated.

If that were to occur, then since no candidate hit the magic 270, would not the election go to the Congress, where a stalemated House could not elect a Pres and a stalemated Senate could not elect a VP?

I believe that the Speaker of the House would then serve as Acting president, assuming they could agree on one.
