Yes, but just like executing a trade, where one must take responsibility for executing a wrong trade, the SEC would definitley take notice if there were a whole group of Etrade customers who got confused and bought 1000 shares of a stock vs 100 based on confusion surrounding their software or order entry screens...etrade would investigate, the press would be all over it as would the SEC and something would be corrected.
