So, even if we accept all of the claims put forth by those who believe they were misled by the form of the ballot, the fact remains that there is no way to know for whom they meant to vote on that day, at that time, at that place.
I'm sure that your 83-year old mom is sincere, sharp of mind, and made an honest mistake in pushing whatever button she pushed. Now, suppose I also was a voter in Palm Beach, a bit younger than your mom, was in perfect health and sight, had voted republican all my life, and claimed that I also was misled by the ballot. Suppose I claimed that I had mistakingly voted for Buchanan, and now wanted to change my vote and vote for Bush.
