Hi John,

I haven't any argument with you about the ILECs' investment strategies, but they are not the only game in town anymore. They can continue to depreciate through full term, but as they do, others are already encroaching on their territories and are aiming to eat their three squares.

So, some of the ILECs may decide to simply ignore what's happening around them, some may elect to take some losses through write-offs, others may decide to eventually hedge their bets with regards to how they treat the remainder of their serving area deployments through the implmentation of FTTx. Bell South seems poised to at least explore this possibility already.

But in either case, theirs is no longer the final word on what we can expect to see unfolding in the local loop. Fiber will arrive with or without them. Progress rarely exhibits mercy in these cases. And yes, of course ,it will be a heterogeneous mix when viewing the greater whole. Some subscribers may even wind up with multiple feeds within the same residence or SO/HO, each for different reasons.
