As much as the Electoral College has had the potential to create confusion, controversy and the like, I got to say that we probably should keep it, though I wish it could be modified to avoid the winner take all situation.

Without the Electoral College, a campaign manager would pick up the latest STatistical Sample of the US, pick the top 20 or 30 metro areas and focus their campaign solely in those areas. The rural, less populated areas would never even get a glimpse of the candidates. Effectively, they would be disenfranchised .

So, as much as a pain as it can be, I think we should keep it...with some modifications.
